Automotive Exhausts

Cybrand  design and manufacture  an extensive range of automotive exhaust products, many of which are made exclusively for some of the best-known brand names in the performance exhaust industry.
Our range of products includes direct fit exhaust systems, black boxes, sports catalysts, manifolds and downpipes. We also offer a bespoke manufacturing service for low volume or one-off projects, tractors, forklifts and vintage vehicles along with a wide variety of non-automotive applications.

Exhaust Design & Build Service

Cybrand development engineers have individually been at the forefront of automotive exhaust design for more than 20 years. Drawing on this experience affords us the skill and expertise to craft the highest quality custom build exhausts for road, competition and commercial vehicles.
Unlike the majority of custom build facilities in the UK, we design and manufacture our silencers in-house rather than drawing off a limited stock bought in from outside sources. This means that we can provide an optimum, zero compromise design solution for your vehicle and achieve the best possible results.
For tube manipulation we utilise mandrel bending which does not distort or reduce the bore of the tube. This requires specialist CNC machinery that is generally used for high volume production, and is rarely (if ever) found in a typical custom build centre where compression type (tube distorting) bending is widely used.

Our 20,000 square foot factory facility in Birkenhead is fully equipped with the most up to date machinery, and is ready to offer a comprehensive service to all our customers. Build times can range between 4 hours and 4 days, depending on the complexity of the project. Please feel free to contact us and discuss your project in depth, and receive a detailed quotation.

Tube Bending Service

mandrel bendAll mass-produced exhaust products utilise CNC mandrel bent tubing, using Magnum 76 machinery. Unlike traditional ‘compression’ bending, the CNC machines pull the tube around formers whilst a ‘snake’ of articulated balls (the Mandrel) is simultaneously pulled through the tube to ensure zero distortion and produce the highest quality bends. This process is absolutely essential to ensure maximum performance gains.

We also carry extensive stocks of ready-made pipe bends suitable for a variety of uses, in the following diameters: 1.75”, 2.0”, 2.25”, 2.5”, 3”, 3.5”, 4”, 4.5” and 5”

Silencer Manufacture

Our silencers are designed and manufactured in house in either mild, aluminised or stainless steel. We cater for one-offs, small batch quantities and bulk orders, all of which can be manufactured from a sample part or drawing.

Popular automotive silencer section sizes include:
Round: 4”, 5”, 6”
Oval: 6” x 3”, 8” x 4”, 8” x 5”, 9” x 7”.
Larger sizes are made to customers’ specific requirements. Please enquire

‘Sports’ Exhaust Development

We have a dedicated Research & Development team who are constantly updating product ranges with new vehicle applications. Vehicles are selected in direct response to customers’ requests and changes in market trends.

Once new markets are identified, donor vehicles are sourced and the development project is carefully planned to incorporate the following criteria:

  • Vehicle performance
  • Noise level
  • Durability
  • Ease of fitment
  • Emission regulations
  • MOT compliance
  • Price level

Only when a finished product has satisfied the above criteria and undergone a designated road-testing programme, will it be passed to go in to full production.

Materials

2 grades of Stainless Steel are used in production. These are:

Type 304 austenitic. This is generally regarded as the best grade for automotive use and this is the alloy that we use, in plain and annealed form, for 98% of our exhaust systems because of it’s combination of availability, formability, durability and cost. Chromium (10%) and Nickel (19%) are added to the base steel. This is a non-magnetic material and has excellent corrosion resistance.

Type 409 is probably the most popular grade for original equipment (OE) exhaust components and especially catalytic converter casings and pipes. Chromium (11%) is the main addition to the base steel. Ultimate corrosion resistance is not as good as type 304 but the cost is lower and availability excellent. We use this grade in conjunction with aluminised silencer applications.
